About the DJ
Semblance, a Los Angeles, CA native, has been DJ'ing since day one of the new millennium. His musical tastes are rooted in industrial and electronica plus a heavy dose of funk; and yes, he has proven that they can indeed co-exist. After having moved to Portland, OR, he immersed himself in the local DJ community spinning techno-laced filtered house at venues such as Level, The Ohm, The Greek, and Fez Ballroom. After years of experience behind the decks and becoming increasingly aware of what resonates with him, two styles of music have risen to the surface -- deep-house and psytrance. Semblance's deep-house sets will immerse you in a virtual pool of techy house-laiden sexiness, while his intense flavour of psy (referred to by some as 'hardstyle meets psytrance') will drive even the most sober of crowds into a chaotic frenzy beyond the reach of rationality. By understanding himself and embracing these two genres of music, he is able to transmit his raw energy on to the dancefloor.

Aside from playing at local clubs, bars, outdoor parties, and events, Semblance's mixes frequent the airwaves on 94.7 FM's Cocktail and Modern Mix shows. This DJ has certainly done his share intertwining himself with the Portland scene, and future horizons are beckoning. Keep your ears and mind open for this one; be ready to experience.

Deep-House (genre)
Semblance has always resonated with the funky groove of house music. When played in a lounge/bar setting, his deep-house is mellow, atmospheric, groovy, and definitely sexy. When the volume is cranked up a notch, the deep turns to slightly techie and dirty with a solid kick, accenting the funk but still retaining the sexy, trippy vibe of his tracks. A typical deep-house set of his runs in the 124-126bpm range, is entirely harmonically-mixed, and leaves the crowd with a positively sultry vibe.

Psytrance (genre)
Quickly realizing that his style of psy tracks weren't readily available on vinyl, he pawned-off his turntables and bought a pair of CDJs. Since that time, his psy collection has grown immensely, and his sounds have driven crowds from clubs to raves all around Portland. Heavily influenced by the harder, darker, full-on sounds of South African psy, his style has been referred to as, "trance-infused hardstyle with a psytrance beat". A typical set of his runs in the 144-146bpm range, is entirely harmonically-mixed, and whips the crowd into a stomping, psychedelic frenzy.
